Guam basic information
Guam is a U.S. territory from 1950 and the closest U.S. land from Japan.
Official language is English and Chamorro. Also Japanese is used in the Tumon area.
Guam is in the oceanic subtropical regions and the average temperature is 26? and you can swim throughout the year.
November to May is dry season, and June to October is rainy season. Two thirds of average annual rainfall 98 inches is raining during rainy season.
Location and Time difference
Guam is located 2,500km southeast from Japan. It's at latitude 13° 30' N and longitude 144° 30' E. Area is about 549km2. It's the biggest island in Micronesia and the same size as Awaji island of Japan. It takes three and half hours flight from Japan and time difference is 1 hour.

Jungle is covering 70% of the area of the island. There are coconut, banana, breadfruit, mango, avocado and many other trees in the jungle. The jungle is a rich food repository for ancient people. Many kinds of tropical flowers come out throughout the year. There are Guam's flower bougainvillea, plumeria, hibiscus, flame tree and more that you can see in the Tumon area too. In Guam's oceans, colorful tropical fishes and beautiful coral are bountiful. There are about 300 kind's corals and about 50 kinds' soft coral.
Chamorro culture includes language, cooking, music, architecture, house management, industry and more. But some of them are declining by reign of foreign country and the advance of civilization. Present Chamorro culture is influenced by Spanish reign for 300 years. Although "Adios" means good bye is Spanish, it's used as Chamorro language. Achote is ingredient of red rice and is a signature Chamorro food. Donne is standard spicy seasoning for local people. But achote, donne and also even beef and pork are favorite foods to BBQ was brought from Spain. Chamorro dance show is held at local events and some hotel dinner shows. Chamorro dance have two patterns. One is ancient style, another is Spanish style.

Chamorro is Guam's original language, and it's still veiled in mystery. But in result of research, Chamorro is known that it has many points of similar to East South Asia culture like language, and Chamorro moved from there. Guam's signature site "Latte Stone" is said to be the foundation of homes. But it's still a mystery. Chamorro worshipped nature and co-existed with nature. They used sun, moon and stars for time, rock, plants, shell and more natural material for life. Their food was based from hunting and fishing.

Chamorro ancient life finished in discover Guam island by Magellan in March 6th 1521. Since king of Spain declare in 1565, their life such as religion, food, costume, architecture and more, had been influenced by Spanish culture and accomplished big change. Present sight seen spots like Chocolate House and catholic church and even Chamorro food is influenced on Spanish reign.
Guam History (American Reign)
After Spanish - American War in 1898, Guam was under American reign, and agriculture, education, a tax system, a public undertaking and more reformation was brought to Guam. Although during Pacific War, Guam was under Japanese reign for two and half years, America occupied Guam again, and Guam was a territory of the U.S. in 1944. Pan American Airline has been put into service between Japan and Guam. In this chance, tourism industry expanded and it's one of Guam's main industries now.
